President Trump: Federal Employees are Held Accountable

President Trump announced that following his first-day executive order, he will direct the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to develop and implement new regulations for career federal employees. These regulations will specifically focus on those government workers whose roles involve shaping, interpreting, or implementing national policies.
Under the new system, these employees—currently protected from political influence and difficult to remove from their positions—would be reclassified under a new category called “Schedule Policy/Career.” This new classification is intended to distinguish policy-related roles from other civil service jobs and will subject these employees to stricter standards of professional conduct and job performance.
President Trump emphasized that government workers who are tasked with carrying out the President’s policy agenda must be fully committed to advancing the priorities set by the elected administration. If any of these employees are found to be obstructing or refusing to implement the President’s directives, or if they are discovered to be involved in corruption or unethical behavior, they would be subject to termination.
He argued that this approach is simply “common sense,” aligning the federal government’s management practices more closely with those found in the private sector, where accountability and performance expectations are higher. President Trump believes that by increasing accountability and removing those who are not aligned with the administration’s goals or who engage in misconduct, the federal government will operate more efficiently and effectively—“run like a business.”
Trump stressed the need to eliminate corruption within government agencies and to ensure that federal employees are held accountable for their actions, ultimately restoring trust in the federal workforce and improving the delivery of services to the American people.
